MINISTER ÖZER ANNOUNCES QUOTA DISTRIBUTION ACCORDING TO BRANCHES IN THE APPOINTMENT OF 20 THOUSAND TEACHERS

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer announced quota distribution according to branches during the appointment of 20 thousand teachers at the live new program aired in Kanal 7.

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer pointed out that the majority of teachers appointments were done in the last 19 years and the number of teachers increased from 500,000 to 1,2 million during this period adding that, "One of the main elements of our success is increasing the number of teachers in our education system. Due to this reason, I want to thank our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He made great sacrifices for including a large number of teachers in our education system and supported our campaigns carried out in order to increase schooling rates. 75 percent of existing teachers were appointed in the last 19 years. There is a significant change in the number of male and female teachers. 40 percent of 500,000 teachers in the education system in the 2000s were female. Now, approximately 60 percent of the existing 1,2 million teachers are female teachers."

Özer said that the majority of teachers are appointed to preschool education institutions.

"We reached the desired level in schooling rate in all levels of education except preschool education. Our project aiming at opening 3,000 new kindergartens and 40,000 preschool classrooms continues with success," stated Özer.

Giving figures about the appointment of 20 thousand teachers, Özer said these teachers will be assigned to 99 different branches.

Özer also announced the names of five branches in which the highest number of teachers will be appointed. 7,503 of newly appointed teachers will be assigned to preschool education institutions while 2,223 of them will work in primary schools, 1,250 will work as special education teachers, 1,218 will be assigned as religious culture and moral knowledge and 1,004 will work as primary school mathematics teachers.

Özer stated that appointments will be done at a ceremony organized on September 1 with the participation of President Erdoğan.

Minister Özer reminded that İstanbul has the largest number of students and it has a special place in education investments and teacher appointments adding that, "In the last two appointments, 10 thousand teaches are assigned to İstanbul. This year, we will appoint 50 percent of new teachers to schools located in İstanbul."
