MINISTRY OF NATIONAL EDUCATION REGISTERED 188 TRADEMARKS FOR USEFUL MODEL, DESIGN AND BRANDS

"Intellectual property rights were defined as the main theme in vocation education in the 2019-2020 education year and the Ministry had set "100 trademarks" as the goal of the year. Vocational high schools managed to exceed this goal with the help of investments and R&D centers. Last year, the Ministry of National Education officially registered a total of 188 trademarks for 12 patents, 8 useful models, 109 designs and 59 brands."

As a part of its efforts on intellectual property rights, the Ministry of National Education managed to exceed its goal to register "100 trademarks" set for 2019-2020 education year and recorded 12 patents, 8 useful models, 109 designs and 59 brands in the Turkish Patent and Trademark Institution.

Deputy Minister of Ministry of National Education Mahmut Özer stated that intellectual property rights is among the most important elements that supported education and the economy.

Reminding that the Ministry has set "intellectual property rights" as the main theme of the 2019-2020 school year, Özer stated that they have founded 40 Research and Development (R&D) centers within this framework.

Reminding that the Ministry had set 100 trademarks for the previous year, Özer stated: "Increase in the design and production capacity of vocational education during the Covid-19 pandemic, helped us to achieve this goal within a short period of time. In 2019, the Ministry registered 12 patents and 8 useful models and in 2020, we had registered 109 designs and 59 brands.  These figures showed that we have exceeded our goal to register "100 trademarks" by 88 percent. We completed the registration application process for 490 products including 76 patents, 93 useful models and 229 brands."

New goal of R&D centers is 250 trademarks
Noting that newly founded R&D centers in vocational high schools will continue to provide important contributions to the achievement of this goal, Özer went on to say that: "We allocated 10 million liras as a startup support for the projects on intellectual property rights which will be prepared by our R&D centers. All these centers developed projects within the context of intellectual property rights after making required survey and sent them to our Ministry. This month, we will review these projects and provide needed support. Our goal for this year is 250 trademarks for patents, useful models, design and brands. I believe that we will achieve this goal by giving the required support."

"I would like to express my gratitude to the Chairman of Turkish Patent and Trademark Institution Prof. Dr. Habip Asan and thank to Director General for Vocational and Technical Education Kemal Varın Numanoğlu, his colleagues, provincial directors, school administrators, R&D center officials, teachers and students for their effort and successful contribution."
