SUPPLEMENTARY SOURCES FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS TO REINFORCE TURKISH AND FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer announced that supplementary sources including activity and teachers' books will be distributed at the beginning of the next school year as a part of a campaign carried out in order to reinforce Turkish and foreign language education.

Minister Özer stated that the Ministry of National Education has been carrying out many projects in an effort to reinforce Turkish and foreign language education through different training materials and mechanisms and carry measurement and assessment systems to a better level.

Stressing the importance of using in-class measurement and assessment activities in instant and valid feedback and in following up student developments, Özer went on to say that: "Based on this approach and by considering the improvement of importance of language skills, we have been working in an effort to prepare sets of activity and teachers' books for Primary School Turkish and Foreign Language classes. For the first time in the history of our Ministry, we have completed the activity and teachers' books for second graders and we will distribute them at the beginning of next school year. Meanwhile, we are preparing Turkish and foreign language supplementary sources for 3rd and 4th grades."

Özer stated that activity books aim at enriching in-class measurement and assessment activities and equipping teachers with new skills about assessment.

"In this light, we are planning to disseminate supplementary source books to the entire country, improve in-class measurement and assessment activities and increase good examples concerning assessment. Within this framework, language education will be reinforced by using different mechanisms and training materials and measurement and assessment systems will be shaped," added Minister Özer.
