TRADITIONAL GAMES WILL BE PLAYED AGAIN IN SCHOOL GARDENS

A guidebook titled "100 Face to Face Children's Games", which includes information and videos on how to play 100 traditional children's games, was prepared for preschool, primary and secondary school students. Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin stated that the easiest way to combat many different problems such as screen addiction and obesity is to direct children to traditional games.

The Directorate General of Basic Education has initiated a work to keep the traditional games such as "çatlak-patlak (little piggy)", "stop", "hide and seek", "tic-tac-toe", "five stones", "golden bracelet", "playing tag", "puss-in-the-corner", "handkerchief grab", "hopscotch", "duck duck goose" alive.
 
A guidebook titled "100 Face to Face Children's Games", which includes information and videos on how to play 100 traditional children's games, was prepared for preschool, primary and secondary school students.
 
Noting that children learn about the world through games, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin said that the self-confidence for work and social life is gained by introducing children to games at an early age.
 
Stressing that the easiest way to combat many different problems such as screen addiction and obesity is to direct children to traditional games, Minister Tekin emphasized that traditional children's games are an important part of keeping the culture alive by transferring valuesto future generations.
 
Giving information about a new study prepared by the Ministry, Minister Tekin expressed that the quidebook presented today was prepared by colleagues with great devotion, so that individuals of all ages, from young to old, can learn and include them in life. Thanking his colleagues for their contributions, the Minister wished this valuable work to be beneficial for children. 
 
Underlining that children's games are the most effective means of learning and development, Minister Tekin said that our children, who grow up with children's games, gain the ability to express themselves. Minister Tekin wished the students to have a healthy, happy and successful week by learning new information.
 
Physical arrangements will be made in school gardens
Students and teachers will learn the rules of 100 traditional children's games and materials used in these games through the guidebooks and videos prepared by the Directorate General of Basic Education.
 
In this context, physical arrangements will be made for children's games in all suitable areas of the school, especially in the school gardens. It is aimed to give more space to traditional children's games in schools and to organize traditional children's games festivals in all provinces, especially in the spring months.
 
The guidebook prepared by the Directorate General of Basic Education, which started working to bring traditional children's games to light again, consists games that enable children and young people to improve their cognitive, physical, social and emotional well-being and social aspects, and to make better use of their time by playing in harmony with their friends in the natural environment and at school.
 
The guidebook aims to raise awareness on the importance of traditional games for children and the different functions of games in education as well as to introduce children to traditional children's games outside the classroom.
 
It is aimed for individuals of all ages to learn traditional games, which are an important part of keeping the culture alive by transferring values to future generations, and to include them in their lives.
