The Ministry of National Education continues to realize numerous projects as part of vocational education and to undertake important transformations.  Graduates from special education vocational schools, where students with mild mental disabilities are educated, will be able to go to the university by entering Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) as from next year. Noting that steps have been taken to improve employment and higher education for the graduates of the special education vocational school, Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk said, "Istanbul is the province with the highest number of students in special education vocational schools. Therefore, we took the step towards employment with the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO). Afterwards, we will expand it to other provinces."

With the new regulation announced by the Ministry of National Education, graduates of special education school, where students with mild mental disabilities are educated, will be able to go to university by taking the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) as from next year.

The Regulation on the Amendment to the Special Education Services was published in the Official Gazette and entered into force.

Stating that  Ministry, has implemented many projects in vocational education and that there has been a significant transformation, regarding the regulation, Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk, said  that they have begun to transfer this experience in vocational education to special education vocational schools that serve for students with mild disabilities.

For this purpose, Selçuk indicated that they have taken important steps with the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO) in employment. He also noted that with today's regulation, the access from special education vocational schools to higher education has been paved.

Selçuk made an assessment regarding both steps towards special education vocational schools: "In special education vocational schools operating under our Directorate General for Special Education and Guidance Services, our students with mild mental disability are trained in 18 vocational education fields. There are 184 of these schools in our country and approximately 13 thousand students receive education. There were problems with our graduates in employment and access to higher education. We have taken steps to make improvements in both areas. Istanbul is the province with the highest number of students in special education vocational schools. Therefore, we took the step towards employment with the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO). Afterwards, we will expand it to other provinces. The second step is to provide our graduates with access to higher education. According to the current regulation, our graduates from special education schools are not able to continue their higher education. With the regulation we made on the Special Education and Guidance Services, graduates from special education vocational schools will now be able to take the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS).

Stating that the process was carried out by Deputy Minister Mahmut Özer, Selçuk thanked those who contributed to the implementation of the regulations.
