MINISTER ÖZER SHARED TÜRKİYE'S EXPERIENCE IN EDUCATION AT THE WORLD EDUCATION FORUM HELD IN LONDON

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer shared Türkiye's experience in education during his speech at the World Education Forum which was participated by more than 100 countries and accepted as the largest education ministers' meeting of the world.

The 2022 World Education Forum Ministers' Session was held in London with the participation of education ministers from more than 100 countries.
 
Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer said during his address to ministers and educators from different parts of the world that 21st century witnessed strong economic and social transitions.
 
Özer stated that the unexpected pandemics, natural disasters and migrations affected the education systems and all education systems have faced Covid-19 pandemics since 2020.
 
"We all see that schools should not be considered only as the place of education. It has other functions, too. They decrease inequalities in the society and provide a suitable environment for the pkysical, emotional, social and psychological development of children."
 
"Number of students in Türkiye is higher than the population of 150 countries"
Minister Özer noted that the education system in Türkiye witnessed important developments in the last 20 years and schooling rate in all levels of education increased during this period.
 
There are approximately 19 million students in preschool, primary and secondary schools and 9 million students in higher education institutions. Minister Özer stated that the number of students in 1,2 million teachers in the education system of the country.
 
Minister Özer said that the Ministry has defined priorities of the education policy in line with the experience attained during the pandemic and first of these priorities was increasing schooling rates.
 
Stressing that his Ministry worked in an effort to provide the same quality of education to all students regardless of their socioeconomic background, Özer noted that they also focused on reinforcing the quality of teachers.
 
Our priority is to increase the quality of Turkish education system
"Türkiye is giving education to Syrian refugees in the country and there are approximately 1 million Syrian students in our education system. Türkiye is doing its best on behalf of the entire world. This is very important. You must thank Türkiye as we are not only giving education to our own people but also to refugees," said Özer.
 
Özer said that the priority of the Turkish Ministry of National Education system is increasing the quality of its education system and it aims at increasing the schooling rate of preschool education to 100 percent. He noted that vocational education and increasing employment rate of vocational school graduates are among their other priorities.
 
"All education systems are as strong as their teachers"
Minister Özer also mentioned that his Ministry is giving all kinds of support to teachers and newly passed Teaching Profession Law plays an encouraging role in the professional improvement of teachers.
 
"All education systems are as strong as their teachers," added Özer.
